What is Benchmarking?

Benchmarking is the anonymous comparison of key business measures against other vegetable growers in your region and WA. It’s a simple way to manage your business more effectively and find improvements to be made.

vegetablesWA provides a free annual vegetable benchmarking service to all growers, funded through Hort Innovation vegetable research and development levy funds.

By participating in the benchmarking service, growers will receive an individual, confidential report, hand delivered and explained by the benchmarking team. It will clearly and quickly point out where business improvements can be made to increase return on capital, reduce operating expenses and even free up more time to spend with the family.

  1. With an average Return on Capital for FY2018-19 of 8%, the vegetable industry can generate great returns comparable with any other industry or investment types.
  2. Growers are spending on average 74c/72c respectively to make $1 before paying for tax, depreciation, lease/land hire or management drawings.
  3. vegetablesWA has been able to produce a 3-year average for each of the key metrics. The 3-year averages will be a critical measuring stick when assessing the true impact of Covid-19 on the industry and understanding exactly where all business recovery efforts should be targeted
