Financial Management

At vegetablesWA, we know that growers are hard workers who generally spend most of their time out in the field. We understand that sometimes financial management can slip behind as the practicalities of running a horticultural business take precedence.

vegetablesWA assists growers with financial management in a range of ways, including:

  • Running financial management workshops. Check out the next events to register for the next workshop near you.
  • Creating financial management worksheets that you can tailor to suit your business. If you are interested, please contact us  and we can help get you set up.
  • Assistance with understanding what to measure and manage in your business, and how to do it.

Horticulture Code of Conduct

The Horticulture Code is a mandatory industry code prescribed under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Growers and traders trading in horticulture produce must comply with the Horticulture Code.

Traders can be either:

  • Merchants – who purchase produce for resale; or
  • Agents – who sell produce on behalf of growers for a commission or fee.

The Code does not apply to:

  • Nursery products – including trees, plants, seeds and flowers
  • Retailers – businesses buying produce for retail sale
  • Exporters – businesses buying the produce for export
  • Processors – businesses buying the produce for processing.

Labour Practices

One of the biggest challenges facing WA growers is labour hire – both understanding requirements from an employer perspective and having access to legal, reliable labour when required.

In order to help address this challenge, vegetablesWA works closely with Fair Work and Wageline to provide support to growers experiencing issues. In addition, vegetablesWA has provided a submission to the review of the State Industrial Relations System, calling for better protections for WA growers and horticulture workers.

As always, feel free to call the vegetablesWA office to see how we can help you.

Industrial relations

Navigating industrial relations requirements, laws and policies can be challenging for even the most experienced business person. If you feel you need assistance in this area, or need to be pointed in the right direction, contact our office to see if we can help.
